How new LINERs adapt to Hybrid Work

Learn about LINE's exclusive onboarding program helps new hires understand our Hybrid Work system

2023.07.14

LINE Plus has a Hybrid Work system, which means you can choose how to divide your working time between the office and your home office. For employees who live far from LINE Plus's offices in Bundang, south of Seoul, this means they can avoid long, tiring commutes, and instead use that extra time to relax and enjoy their lives. Make breakfast! Enjoy a cup of coffee!

Of course, everyone needs to go to the office sometimes. And some people choose to go regularly. You can make a reservation for your preferred desk and work from there. It is also possible to work abroad, from countries that are within 4 time zones of Korea. You can choose the best working hours and space according to your work and life style.

It is a unique and amazing work system. However, for new LINERs just getting to know the company, you might be worried about how you will be able to adjust to this new system.

Get organized with the LINE Enterprise Onboarding Program

Don't be scared! LINE has plenty of ways to help you learn how our system works. First of all, the Talent Growth team's on-boarding training is held on the first and second days you start working at LINE. In this training program, you can learn all about how remote works, including using the company VPN, essential systems for remote work, collaborative work tools, how to use the in-house system CONNECT, and LINE Style 3.0 (the guide to how LINERs' work and think). It's an onboarding program that you do together with your colleagues, helping to give all the new employees a solid and stable foundation to start their positions at LINE.

A helpful (and good-looking) introduction to your company life: The Welcome Kit

The Welcome Kit is a great gift to make a winning first impression on our newcomers, offering them a sense of the company's style and atmosphere. In this special box that only newbie LINERS can receive, there is a portable tumbler, a simple laptop pouch that is light and easy to store, a box of sweet cookies (good for having with a cup of coffee with your team members), a notebook, a pen, and a T-shirt. In addition, there is a mission paper that catches the eye - Cute suggestion such as "First meeting: photoshoot at the office," "Tea time: share experience with team members as a LINER," and "Unexpected meal: invite a colleague to lunch". The Talent Growth team will send you coffee and meal gift-icons, so no need to worry about your budget. By accomplishing the mission one by one with your teammates, you will find yourself naturally integrated into the team.

Product Design onboarding program provides a full range of help for newbies

Even after you begin to get used to the company and the team, you might feel anxious again because you are not sure if you can perform well with certain tools you haven't used before. But it's okay even if the only BTS you know is just the K-pop group (rather than the "Bug Tracking System"). The LINE Product Design organization has a solid on-boarding program that will help you go through.

To help you out, you'll be given a checklist that you can always refer to. Also, there is Design Tips website, called the "cheat key" of the product designers' company life, where you can find answers for almost everything from sending self-introduction emails to business card applications, program/system usage tutorials, and common DEV sense for non-developers.

The Product Design main onboarding program is held under the auspices of the Design Relations team. Ice breaking, organizational guidance, LDS introduction, mini-games, and frequent system guidance and practice are conducted in the order. Even if you're in the same organization, sometimes you can't tell what exactly your neighboring team does and what their roles are – such as Product Designer, Graphic Designer, Design Operator, UX Reseller, Design Facilitator. After joining the training program, you will be able to understand each other's roles clearly, as well as the goals and visions of the organization, with the clear map in your head.

To give you some information about our tools,

A total of 400 designers work in five countries - Korea, Japan, Thailand, Taiwan, and Indonesia – therefore consistent design quality control is very important. LINE Design System (LDS) is a system that provides integrated guidelines for the components, interactions, and UI/UX that make up the entirety of LINE Design. This system plays a key role in maintaining the design consistency of LINE's global services.

Wiki, which will be used the most in the future, is a website where many people can accumulate, share, and manage information together. You can look at all the projects here. The Bug Tracking System (BTS) is a collaborative tool that manages project issues. It is used heavily in LINE because it helps manage simultaneous tasks very systemically.

No matter how good a tool is, it's meaningless if you don't know how to use it. So this is the highlight of the Product Design onboarding program – getting in actual practice. You can get a sense of how things work by actually using tools with an expert. Sometimes it's more effective than hundreds of words. According to our internal surveys, this is the session with the highest satisfaction from new employees. There's a mini game too, where laughter doesn't stop during the session. Thanks to the competitiveness and unusual items you use to win, you can get closer with your colleagues. The last session of the program is to go on a resaurant tour near the office with your special colleagues who joined the company on the same day.

With our onboarding program, do you think you'll be able to easily adapt to the LINE Design organization? Yes, of course you can!
