LINE has an in-house idea contest called "NEXTLINE", where we aim to move into the future by providing LINERs an opportunity to think about new services that have never existed before. It was a process often called as "makeathon" (a combination of make and marathon, where members from various fields team up to conduct a marathon workshop from ideation to prototyping based on a given topic) for candidates selected after the first screening.
In Korean, we often say "draw a line" when referring to something so clearly distinguished it can open a whole new period for a process or field. As NEXTLINE is a project that aims to discover ideas that can mark a milestone in LINE's history, the brand goods and trophies are designed to imply that purpose visually.
1. Logo and Key Visual
Inspired by the makeathon slogan, "An idea that will draw a line," we designed the logo so that the "line" actually passes through the center of the name NEXTLINE. This design, which emphasizes the green straight line, is also applied uniformly to goods and trophies.
In addition, we used masking tape that can be easily stuck and unstuck as a key visual to illustrate the idea. And we emphasized the freshness of the idea by using a little more neon green than the existing LINE Forest Green color.
2. Goods for Makerthon Participants
Among the goods we developed, we used the neon green masking tape as a key visual for a hoodie, with a green line splitting the center of NEXTLINE logo to the ballpoint pen. Furthermore, the actual masking tape was included as one of the goods provided to the participants.
3. Trophy Design
As for the winner's trophy, which was awarded for providing an idea to mark a milestone in LINE's history, we also applied a green line through the center of the NEXTLINE logo when looking from the front.
The world develops little by little through sparkling ideas. We hope that the idea of our NEXTLINE winners will be born as a service that will be remembered not only by LINE but also by many users.
