When you start watching short-form content, you don't even realize how quickly time can fly by. We know that many of you are serious fans of these short and impactful videos, and the growing popularity of the short-form-content platform LINE VOOM seems to be unstoppable. It’s ultimately the details that make a service stand out, and as you get more and more engrossed in LINE VOOM, you may have grown curious about the thinking and concepts behind its design.
To answer some of these questions, we’ve prepared some details from the recent LINE VOOM design event, to give you a glimpse into the numerous trials and errors that led to the final result.
Project Play Day
Twice a year, the designers behind the vibrant energy of LINE VOOM, gather for an event called Project Play Day. Here, we openly and freely discuss the design direction and "WOW" factors that LINE VOOM pursues. It's a networking opportunity where we share new insights and inspirations while also encouraging each other and taking a break from the usual hustle and bustle.
What makes Project Play Day so special is that we get to see the experiences and lessons learned while working on VOOM, which can be invaluable for future endeavors. In short, this event is a chance for us to reflect on our projects together and search for special ideas that can inspire us to new heights in the future.
Looking Back and Reigniting the Passion
Although these sessions initially started online due to COVID-19, thanks to people's high participation rates and positive feedback, they have already reached its fourth session. This recent Project Play Day was held offline, and it kicked off with the unveiling of LINE VOOM's logo, symbol, and new graphic elements. These represent the social services available on LINE VOOM, such as Video, Music, Camera Effects, and Comments.
Next came the Team Presentation session. Once designs and features are released, we quickly dive into new projects and face new challenges, which often causes past projects to fade from our memory. That's why during Project Play Day, we focus on reviewing past projects, observing user reactions, and sharing recorded feedback.
Collaborating with Other Teams and Creating Camera Effects
First off, the VOOM Content Design 1 team shared the brand guidelines they released in the first half of the year. Since this team is responsible for the branding and graphic marketing of the LINE VOOM service, they work closely with our members in Japan. Based on their first-hand experience, they provided tips for working closely with related departments located far away, such as explaining things clearly with reference images, sharing usable resources, and conducting online reviews (testing in Korea and review/printing in Japan).
VOOM is situated on the third tab of the LINE messenger. VOOM Product Design 1 team focuses on making the messenger more convenient and enjoyable for users. They've shared metrics on advertising exposure, purchasing experiences, video viewing, and VOOM LIVE consumption habits, discussing every aspect from the user's perspective and sharing the thought process behind their decisions.
Did you know that you can also experience LINE VOOM on the web? The VOOM Product Design 2 team is working on designing a web experience that makes it easier and more efficient for various creators to manage their content. It was a great opportunity to delve into ways of connecting with mobile and web users.
Finally, the VOOM Content Design 2 team, responsible for the AR filters integrated into LINE VOOM Camera, presented their project. From artistic face makeup to subtle touch-ups and even filters that transform users into characters from sci-fi movies, they have cleverly responded to the rapidly changing tastes and needs of users. Thanks to their work, we gained new insights into visual trends.
Time to Relax and Get to Know Each Other
Of course, we also took breaks to relax and get to know each other. Among them, the TMI ("Too Much Information") Quiz event was undoubtedly the most fun, as everyone tried to guess who wrote "TMI,” with the winner getting a Snack Gift Set as a reward. After laughter and some great conversation, we all felt even closer thanks to sharing things we wouldn't normally. We wrapped up the event by watching heartwarming Thank You videos and photos together.
Project Play Day has become a part of the culture of the VOOM Design teams, and everyone looks forward to it thanks to its different themes every year. Please keep reading this website to learn more about how our design teams are continuing to work together and create great services.
