Following the Red Dot Design Award winners we introduced recently, we are glad to announce another round of success for LINE's talented designers, this time at Japan's 2022 Good Design Award!
The Good Design Award, which started in 1957, is considered Japan's leading event for evaluating and promoting great design. As a design award with a global scope, these awards are held every year, highlighting not only the aesthetics of design, but also designs that contribute to solving social problems and issues. The award-winning "G Mark" is widely appreciated as a symbol of outstanding design.
This year, the LINE Creative won for seven projects, Safety Check, LINE Design System, LINE Search, LINE Official Account Profile, LINE Birthday from Product Design team and LINE Seed and LINE NFT from the BX Design team. Five of those winners (Safety check, LINE Design System, LINE Search, LINE Official Account Profile, and LINE Seed) were winners of both Good Design and Red Dot awards, so in this article, we will mainly highlight LINE Birthday and LINE NFT, the two projects that were recognized by Good Design Award.
1. LINE Birthday
What is LINE Birthday?
LINE Birthday is LINE's unique birthday feature that lets you feel the warmth of offline celebrations on your mobile device. In addition to the basic function of writing and sending messages to your friends' on their big day, LINE Birthday also offers a variety of easy-to-use and fun functions, including sending balloons, secret cards that only your friend can see, and adding decorative balloons to your profile.

From profiles to birthday board, there are all sorts of ways to celebrate. - A little birthday party on your profile
Add some celebratory balloons to your profile, which you can then enjoy by tapping the balloon above your profile. - Sending a personalized letter
Choose your favorite card from the card collection and add your own special message. If you want privacy, you can also send it as a secret card. - An easy way to celebrate birthday
You can celebrate your friends' birthday just by pressing the balloon even without writing a letter. Celebrants can also enjoy fun and light way of celebrations.
2. LINE NFT
What is LINE NFT?
LINE NFT is a comprehensive NFT marketplace where anyone can easily trade NFTs through a simple process and payment method. NFTs purchased from LINE NFT can be exchanged or gifted with other LINE users and stored in your LINE BITMAX Wallet, a digital asset management wallet that can be easily subscribed to using a LINE Account.
Design features
- Symbolization
As a "digital asset," the NFT's main feature is symbolized as pixels, the smallest digital unit. Another feature "segmentation", is expressed in a separate form of one pixel missing from the letter "N" of the wordmark. - Visual Motivation
The pixel symbolization of wordmarks are naturally utilized as visual motifs as frames that express various forms of digital content in service-related applications.
